LCD protector problem
November 5th, 2005 by tsarlsNow that’s a very technical title for a first blog post hehe. Am not actually planning to post anything because i really hate autobiography but what the heck, let’s do this shit since am at home on a saturday night?!?! (palagi naman e) At least maybe i can improve my poor writng skills a little through blog posting. So what’s this LCD protector problem… it started out a month ago i think, since LCD prices have gone down almost 40% from their prices a year ago, we were thinking of buying LCD monitors instead of the typical square boxes to save space. My very first concern was how to protect the LCD surface from “fingering” customers. You know, those customers that point and press their fingers against the monitor, that’s a no-no especially to girls with sharp fingernails. A year ago when we had our first 2 LCD monitors, I already improvised a protector. We cut out a whole glass to match the size of the monitor and put double sided tape on it, as simple as that, but effective. The only downside is that the once elegant looking monitor is now rather looking a little ugly because you can see the double sided tape underneath the glass. I was rather lazy to think of another solution at that time and went on with it eventhough it looks ugly. And now the time comes to purchase more LCD monitors, i really have to find a way to make a protector that will not lookr ugly. And so we came up with a solution. If you observe closely, you can find that every LCD monitor have a “gutter” between the casing and the LCD panel itslef. So we cut another glass that fits exactly on that “gutter” and viola! we have a protector that fits nicely and looking good on the monitor. Double sided tape is not needed since the glass is fitted exactly on the “gutter”. Don’t worry of the glass falling off since monitors are usually inclined back when in use. the only thing you have to be worried about is the size of the glass, it should fit exactly on the gutter otherwise if its a little too short on height or width, it will leave an ugly gap. (we missed the size on the first try, it was short on height, so we junked the first glass).
Aha! That was rather long hehe. If you happen to have an LCD monitor, maybe you can try this solution too. Now our customers can “finger” the monitor all they want hehe. I hope to write something more about myself next time, but for now please bear with this. Comments are welcome, especially the organization of my writing.
